There is an endless supply of virtual tools that students can experiment with, even learning to create their own unique brushes, paints, pencils, pastels, canvas, and paper. The essentials of color theory can be easily grasped when students instantly see in the app how color is separated into its three basic attributes of hue, value and saturation. Students will not only learn to create paintings that look as if they were made with traditional materials, but will gain better understanding of the foundational concepts of line, tonal value, and color by taking advantage of unique aspects of working digitally. The instructor will demonstrate and teach using iPad with Apple Pencil and the Procreate app. We will translate the principles of traditional drawing and painting into the language of digital media, starting with the basics of line and shape, moving on to value (light and dark) and finally exploring color. In Procreate for Children: The Basics of Digital Painting, children will learn the basics of digital painting using a classical approach.
